Corneal Edema |
| Corneal edema is a build up of fluid or swelling of the cornea that can produce clouding of the cornea and significant decrease in vision. This may occur following surgery on the eye, particularly cataract surgery. It may occur spontaneously, with inflammation of the cornea or as a result of corneal dystrophies. |
|
| When the cornea swells, it becomes thick and cloudy, blocking the passage of light into the eye. When corneal edema is a result of infection or inflammation, antibiotics and / or anti-inflammatory drops may ease the swelling, allowing for an improvement in vision. When the edema is due to dystrophies, corneal transplantation may be necessary. |
